EURO 2016 GOLDEN BOOT CONTENDERS: HARRY KANE.
Tottenham and England striker Harry Kane is amongst the favourites to win the Golden Boot award at this summer’s European Championships. The 22-year-old has been prolific for the past few seasons in the English top-flight and is now considered England first choice striker.
Last season Kane collected the golden bootaward in the English top-flight, scoring 25 times for Tottenham as Mauricio Pochettino’s side challenged for the Premier League title.
Kane is not a seasoned international by any stretch of the imagination making just 12 appearances for the Three Lions and scoring five times. However he is regarded as the most potent attacking threat in Roy Hodgson’s attacking armoury.
Kane has played for much of his career as a lone striker, but in recent international games England boss Hodgson has attempted to pair the Spurs star with man of the moment Jamie Vardy.
The pairing has seen mixed results, but both players add something to the partnership and may well start the Three Lions opening game against Russia as a pair.
How Kane fairs in the race for the award will depend on how far the Three Lions go in the tournament. Most football predictions suggest they are likely to get out of the group stages and into the last 16 of the competition.
A key to Kane having any chance of him winning the award is whether he can forge an understanding with Vardy and Wayne Rooney in France. Early signs are that England have a lot of work to do to fulfil their potential in France.
If Kane can click with England’s other attacking players this summer, then surely Harry Kane will have a very good chance of winning that Golden Boot.
